It also helps you to practice for certification exams like CCNA, CCNP, CCIE, etc. With GNS3, you can create a small topology ranging from few devices on your system to those having multiple devices hosted on different servers. GNS3 can be installed and used on Linux, Mac, and Windows OS.<\/p>\n<p>In this post, we are going to explain how to install the GNS3 network simulator on <strong>Ubuntu 20.04<\/strong> LTS.<\/p>\n<h2>Installing GNS3 on Ubuntu<\/h2>\n<p>GNS3 is not available in the default repositories of Ubuntu OS. To install it, you will need to add its PPA repository to your Ubuntu system. Then we will install it using the Ubuntu package manager.<\/p>\n<p>1. Use the command below in Terminal to add the GNS3 PPA to your system repositories:<\/p>\n<pre>$ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:gns3\/ppa<\/pre>\n<p>After running the above command, you will be prompted to input the sudo password. Type the sudo password and hit <strong>Enter<\/strong> key. Then again, hit <strong>Enter<\/strong> key to continue the procedure. Once this step is completed, move on to the next step. If you do not want to proceed, hit <strong>Ctrl-c<\/strong> to cancel it.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"854\" height=\"621\" class=\"wp-image-10175\" src=\"http:\/\/linuxways.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/word-image-345.png\" srcset=\"https:\/\/linuxways.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/word-image-345.png 854w, https:\/\/linuxways.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/word-image-345-300x218.png 300w, https:\/\/linuxways.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/word-image-345-768x558.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 854px) 100vw, 854px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>2. After running the above command, update the local repository index. The command to do so is as follows:<\/p>\n<pre>$ sudo apt update<\/pre>\n<p>Now your local repository will be updated with the GNS3 PPA.<\/p>\n<p>3. Then install GNS3 software using the below command:<\/p>\n<pre>$ sudo apt install gns3-gui gns3-server<\/pre>\n<p>Now the installation of GNS3 software will be started on your system. Along with GNS3, some other software dependencies will also be installed which are required to run GNS3.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1528\" height=\"266\" class=\"wp-image-10176\" src=\"http:\/\/linuxways.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/word-image-346.png\" srcset=\"https:\/\/linuxways.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/word-image-346.png 1528w, https:\/\/linuxways.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/word-image-346-300x52.png 300w, https:\/\/linuxways.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/word-image-346-1024x178.png 1024w, https:\/\/linuxways.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/word-image-346-768x134.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1528px) 100vw, 1528px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Now a window will show up asking if you would like to permit non-superusers to run GNS3. Select <strong>Yes<\/strong> using the Tab key and then hit <strong>Enter<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1517\" height=\"369\" class=\"wp-image-10177\" src=\"http:\/\/linuxways.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/word-image-347.png\" srcset=\"https:\/\/linuxways.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/word-image-347.png 1517w, https:\/\/linuxways.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/word-image-347-300x73.png 300w, https:\/\/linuxways.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/word-image-347-1024x249.png 1024w, https:\/\/linuxways.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/word-image-347-768x187.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1517px) 100vw, 1517px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Then it will ask if you want to permit non-superusers to capture packets. Again select <strong>Yes<\/strong> using the Tab key and then hit <strong>Enter<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"784\" height=\"450\" class=\"wp-image-10178\" src=\"http:\/\/linuxways.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/word-image-348.png\" srcset=\"https:\/\/linuxways.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/word-image-348.png 784w, https:\/\/linuxways.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/word-image-348-300x172.png 300w, https:\/\/linuxways.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/word-image-348-768x441.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 784px) 100vw, 784px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Now GNS3 software will be installed on your Ubuntu machine.<\/p>\n<p>4. You can launch GNS3 either using the command line Terminal application or the graphical interface. To launch GNS3 using the command line, just run the below command:<\/p>\n<pre>$ gns3<\/pre>\n<p>To launch GNS3 using the graphical interface, hit the super key and type <em>gns3<\/em> in the search area at the top bar. Select the option <strong>Run appliances on my local computer<\/strong> if you are hosting the GNS3 server locally and then click <strong>Next<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"558\" height=\"390\" class=\"wp-image-10181\" src=\"http:\/\/linuxways.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/word-image-351.png\" srcset=\"https:\/\/linuxways.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/word-image-351.png 558w, https:\/\/linuxways.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/word-image-351-300x210.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 558px) 100vw, 558px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Then in the next window, it will show you the default configurations. Leave the default configurations or you can change them to suit your needs.
