It creates backups on demand. It has the ability to create multiple backups on predefined schedules. A user can choose directories and folders of their choice to backup and so on. In this article, we will learn how to install Timeshift on the Fedora distribution. I am using Fedora 34 which is the latest Fedora edition for desktop use.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Installing via CLI<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>It is possible to install Timeshift via Gnome Software, but it is always better on Linux to install any package using CLI. There you are. You have installed Timeshift on your latest Fedora 34.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"796\" height=\"556\" class=\"wp-image-16760\" src=\"http:\/\/linuxways.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/word-image-195.png\" srcset=\"https:\/\/linuxways.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/word-image-195.png 796w, https:\/\/linuxways.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/word-image-195-300x210.png 300w, https:\/\/linuxways.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/word-image-195-768x536.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 796px) 100vw, 796px\" \/><\/p>\n<h2>How to Take The Backup?<\/h2>\n<h3>Step 1: Settings<\/h3>\n<p>Select the settings button in the top menu bar. You will get into the <strong>Settings<\/strong> menu once clicked.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"790\" height=\"65\" class=\"wp-image-16761\" src=\"http:\/\/linuxways.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/word-image-196.png\" srcset=\"https:\/\/linuxways.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/word-image-196.png 790w, https:\/\/linuxways.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/word-image-196-300x25.png 300w, https:\/\/linuxways.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/word-image-196-768x63.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 790px) 100vw, 790px\" \/><\/p>\n<h3>Step 2: Backup Type<\/h3>\n<p>We will not change the type of snapshot and will leave the default selected which is RSYNC in our case.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"536\" height=\"166\" class=\"wp-image-16762\" src=\"http:\/\/linuxways.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/word-image-197.png\" srcset=\"https:\/\/linuxways.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/word-image-197.png 536w, https:\/\/linuxways.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/word-image-197-300x93.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 536px) 100vw, 536px\" \/><\/p>\n<h3>Step 3: Backup Location<\/h3>\n<p>I have only one disk at the time of writing this guide as shown on the following screen. You might have more than one disk, or it could be an external disk for your backups. You can always choose and use whatever location you want. Timeshift does not limit the number of disks.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"537\" height=\"209\" class=\"wp-image-16763\" src=\"http:\/\/linuxways.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/word-image-198.png\" srcset=\"https:\/\/linuxways.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/word-image-198.png 537w, https:\/\/linuxways.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/word-image-198-300x117.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 537px) 100vw, 537px\" \/><\/p>\n<h3>Step 4: Schedule the number of backups<\/h3>\n<p>Now we will schedule a few backups in need. I only prefer one weekly and one monthly backup on my Fedora 34 as it is not a production system. You can select boot back up if you are running important applications on your system. Leave the <strong>cron emails<\/strong> option unchecked.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"533\" height=\"488\" class=\"wp-image-16764\" src=\"http:\/\/linuxways.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/word-image-199.png\" srcset=\"https:\/\/linuxways.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/word-image-199.png 533w, https:\/\/linuxways.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/word-image-199-300x275.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 533px) 100vw, 533px\" \/><\/p>\n<h3>Step 5: Filters<\/h3>\n<p>We will leave <strong>Users<\/strong> and <strong>Misc<\/strong> options as they are. They do not need any change. The remaining option is to filter which directories are to be backed up. In my case, I will choose the default selection. We will take our first backup now. Go back to the menu and click \u201c<strong>Create\u201d<\/strong> to create the first backup of your system. It includes scheduling and taking multiple backups on Fedora 34 using Timeshift utility. Timeshift will continue taking snapshots of our system on a weekly and monthly basis now.
