It binds Vi keystorkes into a text editing language. Kakoune is highly inspired by Vi therefore it look slightly similar to expeirienced developers and system admins. It does a great job of editing files either on a local system or a server.<\/p>\n<p>Now we will observe how Kakoune is installed on Ubuntu 22.04 LTS edition. I will use Ubuntu repositories to fetch the libraries. It can also be installed from source.<\/p>\n<h2>Prerequisites to Install Kakoune Package<\/h2>\n<p>Kakoune is not required to install any dependency.<\/p>\n<h2>Step 1. Install Kakoune Editor on Ubuntu LTS<\/h2>\n<p>It is highly recommended that you should always update your system repositories. It will help you to install latest software without any issues. Follow along with the below commands to perform the installation.<\/p>\n<pre><strong>$ sudo apt update<\/strong><\/pre>\n<pre><strong>$ sudo apt install kakoune<\/strong><\/pre>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"722\" height=\"327\" class=\"wp-image-16893\" src=\"http:\/\/linuxways.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/word-image-282.png\" srcset=\"https:\/\/linuxways.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/word-image-282.png 722w, https:\/\/linuxways.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/word-image-282-300x136.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 722px) 100vw, 722px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>As soon as the packages are installed, you will be able to verify the installation as well as the presence of the application on your system.<\/p>\n<h2>Step 2. Verify Kakoune Installation<\/h2>\n<p>Kakoune is a command-line-based and lightweight application. Therefore it can only be run via CLI. At the time of writing, Kakoune does not display any version number when invoked, but it does show that it is installed. Invoke the following command to find it out.<\/p>\n<pre><strong>$ kak -version<\/strong><\/pre>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"298\" height=\"57\" class=\"wp-image-16894\" src=\"http:\/\/linuxways.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/word-image-283.png\" \/><\/p>\n<h2>Step 3. Launch Kakoune Editor<\/h2>\n<p>To launch Kakoune editor, you will have to invoke the following command to make it run.<\/p>\n<pre><strong>$ kak<\/strong><\/pre>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"730\" height=\"465\" class=\"wp-image-16895\" src=\"http:\/\/linuxways.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/word-image-284.png\" srcset=\"https:\/\/linuxways.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/word-image-284.png 730w, https:\/\/linuxways.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/word-image-284-300x191.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 730px) 100vw, 730px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Kakoune will begin running once you invoke the <strong>kak<\/strong> command. I will also introduce you to some commands that you can use to navigate through the application<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Step 4. Important Kakoune Key Bindings<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Following key bindings will help you to navigate through the editor.<\/p>\n<p><strong>&lt;esc&gt;:<\/strong> It will leave insert mode.<\/p>\n<p><strong>&lt;backspace&gt;:<\/strong> It will delete characters before cursors.<\/p>\n<p><strong>&lt;del&gt;:<\/strong> It will delete characters under cursors.<\/p>\n<p><strong>&lt;left&gt;, &lt;right&gt;, &lt;up&gt;, &lt;down&gt;:<\/strong> This will move the cursors in given direction<\/p>\n<p><strong>&lt;home&gt;:<\/strong> This key moves cursors to line begin.<\/p>\n<p><strong>&lt;end&gt;:<\/strong> This key moves cursors to the end of the line.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"737\" height=\"465\" class=\"wp-image-16896\" src=\"http:\/\/linuxways.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/word-image-285.png\" srcset=\"https:\/\/linuxways.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/word-image-285.png 737w, https:\/\/linuxways.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/word-image-285-300x189.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 737px) 100vw, 737px\" \/><\/p>\n<h2>Step 5. Uninstall Kakoune Editor From Ubuntu 22.04<\/h2>\n<p>Now we will remove Kakoune from the Ubuntu system.
