Ubuntu usually reminds us about the available new updates and clicking on \u201cinstall now\u201d will upgrade our system automatically.<\/p>\n<p>In this article, we will explain how the upgradation process of Ubuntu can be done manually as well as by using the built-in software:<\/p>\n<h2><strong>How to Upgrade Ubuntu to the Latest Version?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Ubuntu can be upgraded to its latest version using two different methods:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Using the built-in Software<\/li>\n<li>Using CLI<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2><strong>Method 1: Upgrading Ubuntu Using Built-In Software<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>The \u201c<strong>Software Updater<\/strong>\u201d in Ubuntu is a built-in, free-to-use software that Ubuntu offers for better testing and validation of new releases or Ubuntu Versions before they are applied. If it is <strong>already up-to-date<\/strong>, simply click on the \u201cOK\u201d button.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Step 3: Installation Wizard Configuration<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>The \u201cUpgrade\u201d button redirects you to the \u201cRelease Notes\u201d window. Click on either of them to continue. Complete the operation by clicking the \u201c<strong>Restart Now<\/strong>\u201d button. The steps below briefly explain how you can upgrade from the current Ubuntu version to a newer one.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Step 1: Performing a Pre-Checkup<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Before upgrading the Ubuntu version, it is crucial to perform an upgrade check. Run the command below to check the available space on the root volume:<\/p>\n<div class=\"codecolorer-container bash blackboard\" style=\"width:100%;\"><div class=\"bash codecolorer\"><span class=\"kw2\">df<\/span> <span class=\"re5\">-h<\/span><\/div><\/div>\n<p>Make sure to have enough space for the upgrade to download as it will add additional new files which will consume your disk space:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"726\" height=\"212\" class=\"wp-image-21412\" src=\"http:\/\/linuxways.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/word-image-21396-15.png\" srcset=\"https:\/\/linuxways.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/word-image-21396-15.png 726w, https:\/\/linuxways.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/09\/word-image-21396-15-300x88.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 726px) 100vw, 726px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The \u201c\/dev\/sda3\u201d has 6.3GB available space, so we are good to go.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Step 2: Installing the Update Package Manager<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Install the \u201c<strong>update-manager-core<\/strong>\u201d package for efficient execution of packages. One of them is using the built-in software application \u201cSoftware Updater\u201d in which we simply follow the instructions of the Update Wizard and the rest of the upgrade is handled automatically by Ubuntu. The other method is a bit hard to follow as we have to follow specific commands and execute them to install the upgrades.
