Let\u2019s take an example. You want to install or uninstall a software application on your system, to do this, either, you can install\/uninstall the program using the terminal commands or can do this through the software manager.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Like other Linux distributions, Linux mint also provides you the multiple ways to uninstall an application from your system. So, in this article, we will cover the details about how to uninstall the software from Linux Mint 20 distribution. All commands which we will perform can also implement on the Debian and Ubuntu distributions.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Prerequisites<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>You should have administrative privileges to run the sudo command.<\/p>\n<p>You can uninstall programs from Linux Mint 20 or its older versions using the following different ways:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Uninstall the program by Right-click on the application from the main menu.<\/li>\n<li>Uninstall program using software Manager<\/li>\n<li>Remove package using the Synaptic package manager<\/li>\n<li>Uninstall program using the Linux Mint terminal<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2><strong>Method 1: Uninstall the program by the Right-click from the main menu<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Open the Linux mint menu. Here, you need to choose an application that you want to remove from your system. Once you enter the password the above program will uninstall from your Linux Mint system.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Method 2: Uninstall the program using the Software Manager<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Open the main menu and type \u2018software manager\u2019 in the search bar. For example, if you want to remove or uninstall the graphic application \u2018pix\u2019 then, click on this application and will see the following dialog:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"798\" height=\"548\" class=\"wp-image-2242\" src=\"http:\/\/linuxways.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/word-image-739.png\" srcset=\"https:\/\/linuxways.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/word-image-739.png 798w, https:\/\/linuxways.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/word-image-739-300x206.png 300w, https:\/\/linuxways.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/word-image-739-768x527.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 798px) 100vw, 798px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Click on the \u2018Remove\u2019 button and in a while, you will notice that the package has been removed from your system.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Method 3: Remove package using the Synaptic package manager<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>If a synaptic package manager is installed on your system, you can uninstall any software using this tool. The following window will display:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-2244\" src=\"http:\/\/linuxways.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/word-image-741.png\" alt=\"how to uninstall programs in linux mint\" width=\"699\" height=\"502\" srcset=\"https:\/\/linuxways.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/word-image-741.png 699w, https:\/\/linuxways.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/word-image-741-300x215.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 699px) 100vw, 699px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Click on the installed version and you can remove the desired package from there. Select an option according to your requirements. The first \u2018mark for removal\u2019 option performs the same task which you can do using the software package manager. It will uninstall the program. The second option \u2018mark for complete removal\u2019 will remove the package by removing all its configurations from the \/etc directory. But, it will not remove configuration files from the home directory. You will remove it manually.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Method 4: Uninstall program using the Linux Mint Terminal<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Most of the users prefer to uninstall a program using the command line environment. However, if you want to uninstall a software through the commands, open the terminal by clicking on the terminal icon on the task bar and then, type the following command to remove any package from your system:<\/p>\n<pre>$ sudo apt remove package-name<\/pre>\n<p>For example, we want to remove the \u2018pix\u2019 graphic application from this system.
