It is also considered the fastest and most stable web browser. Google Chrome does not come preloaded in most Linux distributions including Mint OS. However, you can easily install it in your Linux systems. In our previous posts, we have covered how to install it in <a href=\"https:\/\/linuxways.net\/de\/ubuntu\/how-to-install-google-chrome-on-ubuntu-20-04-lts\/\">Ubuntu<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/linuxways.net\/de\/debian\/how-to-install-google-chrome-on-debian-10\/\">Debian<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/linuxways.net\/de\/centos\/3-ways-to-install-google-chrome-on-centos-8\/\">CentOS<\/a>. This post will be about how to install\/uninstall Google Chrome in the Linux Mint 20 OS and also how to set it as the default web browser.<\/p>\n<p>There are following two methods to install Google Chrome:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Through Command Line<\/li>\n<li>Through GUI<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Installing Google Chrome through Command Line<\/h2>\n<h3>Step 1: Download Google Chrome .deb file<\/h3>\n<p>First, you will need to download .deb file for Google Chrome. Press <strong>Ctrl+Alt+T<\/strong> to open the Terminal and then and run the following command in it to download Google Chrome deb file:<\/p>\n<pre>$ wget <a href=\"https:\/\/dl.google.com\/linux\/direct\/google-chrome-stable_current_amd64.deb\">https:\/\/dl.google.com\/linux\/direct\/google-chrome-stable_current_amd64.deb<\/a><\/pre>\n<h3>Step 2: Install Google Chrome<\/h3>\n<p>Once the .deb file for Google Chrome is downloaded, you can install it using either <strong>gdebi<\/strong> or <strong>apt<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h4>Installation via gdebi<\/h4>\n<p>In order to install Google Chrome via gdebi, run the following command in Terminal:<\/p>\n<pre>$ sudo gdebi google-chrome-stable_current_amd64.deb<\/pre>\n<p>You will be prompted with <strong>y\/N<\/strong>, hit <strong>y<\/strong>. After this, the installation of Google Chrome will be started.<\/p>\n<h3>Step 3: Check Version of Google Chrome<\/h3>\n<p>Once the installation of Google Chrome is completed, you can also verify and check the version of Google Chrome installed as follows:<\/p>\n<pre>$ google-chrome --version<\/pre>\n<p>The following output shows the installed version of Google Chrome on our system is 87.0.4280.88.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"527\" height=\"65\" class=\"wp-image-2813\" src=\"http:\/\/linuxways.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/version-of-google-chrome.png\" alt=\"Version of Google Chrome\" srcset=\"https:\/\/linuxways.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/version-of-google-chrome.png 527w, https:\/\/linuxways.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/version-of-google-chrome-300x37.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 527px) 100vw, 527px\" \/><\/p>\n<h3>Step 4: Launch Google Chrome<\/h3>\n<p>Now, in order to launch Google Chrome, just run the below command:<\/p>\n<pre>$ google-chrome<\/pre>\n<p>It will instantly launch the Google Chrome application on your system.<\/p>\n<h2>Uninstalling Google Chrome<\/h2>\n<p>In case you no longer need Google Chrome on your system, you can easily remove it by running the below command:<\/p>\n<pre>$ sudo apt remove google-chrome-stable<\/pre>\n<p>The system will prompt with <strong>y\/N<\/strong>, hit <strong>y<\/strong>. After this, Google Chrome will be removed from the system.<\/p>\n<h2>Installing Google Chrome through GUI<\/h2>\n<p>Here is the Google Chrome installation procedure for those users who prefer to work graphically.<\/p>\n<h3>1. Download Google Chrome .deb file<\/h3>\n<p>First, you will need to download the .deb file for Google Chrome on your system. To do so, open the following link in your default web browser.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/intl\/en_pk\/chrome\/\">https:\/\/www.google.com\/intl\/en_pk\/chrome\/<\/a><\/p>\n<p>You will see the following page. Click the <strong>Download Chrome<\/strong> button.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1075\" height=\"620\" class=\"wp-image-2814\" src=\"http:\/\/linuxways.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/download-google-chrome.png\" alt=\"Download Google Chrome\" srcset=\"https:\/\/linuxways.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/download-google-chrome.png 1075w, https:\/\/linuxways.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/download-google-chrome-300x173.png 300w, https:\/\/linuxways.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/download-google-chrome-1024x591.png 1024w, https:\/\/linuxways.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/download-google-chrome-768x443.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1075px) 100vw, 1075px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The following dialog will show up for you to choose the download package for your distribution. Choose<strong> 64 bit .deb (For Debian\/Ubuntu) <\/strong>and then click <strong>Accept and Install<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"501\" height=\"521\" class=\"wp-image-2815\" src=\"http:\/\/linuxways.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/download-google-chrome-for-debian-ubuntu.png\" alt=\"Download Google Chrome for Debian\/Ubuntu\" srcset=\"https:\/\/linuxways.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/download-google-chrome-for-debian-ubuntu.png 501w, https:\/\/linuxways.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/download-google-chrome-for-debian-ubuntu-288x300.png 288w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 501px) 100vw, 501px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Now it will ask if you wish to open the .deb file or save it. Select <strong>Save File<\/strong> and click <strong>OK<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"470\" height=\"354\" class=\"wp-image-2816\" src=\"http:\/\/linuxways.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/save-deb-file-for-google-chrome.png\" alt=\"Save .deb file for Google chrome\" srcset=\"https:\/\/linuxways.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/save-deb-file-for-google-chrome.png 470w, https:\/\/linuxways.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/save-deb-file-for-google-chrome-300x226.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 470px) 100vw, 470px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Now it will start downloading the .deb file and save it by default in the <strong>Downloads<\/strong> folder.<\/p>\n<h3>Step 2: Install Google Chrome<\/h3>\n<p>Once the Google Chrome is downloaded, open the Downloads folder in the File Manager. Here, you will see your downloaded .deb file. Right-click the.deb file for Google chrome and select <strong>Open with Gdebi Package Installer.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"631\" height=\"484\" class=\"wp-image-2817\" src=\"http:\/\/linuxways.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/open-deb-file-with-gdebi-apcakeg-installer.png\" alt=\"Open .deb file with gdebi apcakeg Installer\" srcset=\"https:\/\/linuxways.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/open-deb-file-with-gdebi-apcakeg-installer.png 631w, https:\/\/linuxways.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/open-deb-file-with-gdebi-apcakeg-installer-300x230.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 631px) 100vw, 631px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>By doing the above step, the following dialog will appear. Click <strong>Install Package<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"619\" height=\"251\" class=\"wp-image-2818\" src=\"http:\/\/linuxways.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/install-deb-file.png\" alt=\"Install .deb file\" srcset=\"https:\/\/linuxways.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/install-deb-file.png 619w, https:\/\/linuxways.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/install-deb-file-300x122.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 619px) 100vw, 619px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The following authentication box will appear for you to enter the password for authentication. We can set Google Chrome as the default web browser so that all URLs open in Google Chrome. Here are the steps to do so:<\/p>\n<p>Hit the super key on the keyboard and type <em>preferred<\/em> in the search bar at the top. Using either the command line or GUI ways discussed above, you can easily install\/uninstall Google Chrome on Linux mint 20 OS.
