It also supports some other programming languages like PHP, Perl, Android, C\/C++. Eclipse can run on Linux, Windows, and MacOS.<\/p>\n<p>Today\u2019s post is about how to install Eclipse IDE on Ubuntu OS. On Ubuntu, Eclipse IDE can be installed through different methods. Here, we will cover:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Installation of Eclipse IDE via Direct Download<\/li>\n<li>Installation of Eclipse IDE via Snap<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Note<\/strong>: The installation procedures described here have been tested on <strong>Ubuntu 20.04 LTS<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h2>Installation via Direct Download<\/h2>\n<p>In this method, we will install the Eclipse IDE using the tar.gz package available at eclipse.org official website. This method helps you to install the latest version of Eclipse 2021-06 available at eclipse.org website. Follow the below steps to install Eclipse IDE on Linux Ubuntu.<\/p>\n<p>1. In order to run Eclipse, you will first require JRE to be installed on your system. Use the command below to install JRE on your Ubuntu system:<\/p>\n<pre>$ sudo apt install default-jre<\/pre>\n<p>Enter your sudo password, and if a y\/n prompt appears during installation, type <strong>y<\/strong> and press <strong>Enter<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>2. Download the Eclipse tar.gz package from the Eclipse website <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eclipse.org\/downloads\/\">Downloads<\/a> page or use the command below:<\/p>\n<pre>$ wget https:\/\/mirrors.ustc.edu.cn\/eclipse\/oomph\/epp\/2021-06\/R\/eclipse-inst-jre-linux64.tar.gz<\/pre>\n<p>The downloaded file will be in archive format.<\/p>\n<p>3. Extract the tar.gz archive using the command below:<\/p>\n<pre>$ sudo tar -xf eclipse-inst-jre-linux64.tar.gz<\/pre>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"662\" height=\"201\" class=\"wp-image-8587\" src=\"http:\/\/linuxways.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/word-image-602.png\" srcset=\"https:\/\/linuxways.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/word-image-602.png 662w, https:\/\/linuxways.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/word-image-602-300x91.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 662px) 100vw, 662px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The archive will be extracted to a directory named eclipse-inst-jre-linux64<\/p>\n<p>4. Now to install Eclipse, first move inside the extracted directory using this command:<\/p>\n<pre>$ cd eclipse-installer\/<\/pre>\n<p>Then use the command below to run the installer script:<\/p>\n<pre>$ .\/eclipse-inst<\/pre>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"592\" height=\"88\" class=\"wp-image-8588\" src=\"http:\/\/linuxways.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/word-image-603.png\" srcset=\"https:\/\/linuxways.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/word-image-603.png 592w, https:\/\/linuxways.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/word-image-603-300x45.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 592px) 100vw, 592px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>After running the installer script, the following window will appear for you to choose the IDE package to install. As of July 2021, the latest version of the Eclipse snap package is 2019-12. Follow the below steps to install Eclipse IDE on Linux Ubuntu:<\/p>\n<p>1. First install snapd on your Ubuntu system using the command below:<\/p>\n<pre>$ sudo apt install snapd<\/pre>\n<p>Enter your sudo password, and if a <strong>y\/n<\/strong> prompt appears during installation, type <strong>y<\/strong> and press <strong>Enter<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>2.
