The world has seen a steady rise of video calling applications that help colleagues and friends stay connected from wherever they are in the world. One of the applications that has proven useful in helping users keep in touch is Zoom.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/zoom.us\/\">Zoom <\/a>is a cross-platform and proprietary video-conferencing application that allows users to securely and reliably hold video conferencing sessions, chats, webinars, and other online events in a convenient way. It works on Linux, Windows, Mac, and even Android smart devices. Zoom client is intuitive and easy to use. Zoom service provides a free basic plan that offers 40 minute video calls with up to 100 participants. Beyond 100 participants, you will have to settle for the pricing model that suits your needs. There are three <a href=\"https:\/\/zoom.us\/buy\">main pricing models<\/a> namely: Pro, Business, and Education.<\/p>\n<p>In this guide, we will embark on the installation of the Zoom client on AlmaLinux \/ Rocky Linux 8.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Step 1: Update the system and install EPEL<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>To get things rolling, we are going to upgrade packages and refresh the repositories as shown.<\/p>\n<pre><strong>$ sudo dnf update<\/strong><\/pre>\n<p>Once complete, install the EPEL repository on the system. EPEL provides extra or additional software packages for RHEL-based distros. So, run the command:<\/p>\n<pre><strong>$ sudo dnf install epel-release<\/strong><\/pre>\n<p><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"819\" height=\"215\" class=\"wp-image-8647\" src=\"http:\/\/linuxways.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/word-image-639.png\" srcset=\"https:\/\/linuxways.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/word-image-639.png 819w, https:\/\/linuxways.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/word-image-639-300x79.png 300w, https:\/\/linuxways.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/word-image-639-768x202.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 819px) 100vw, 819px\" \/><\/strong><\/p>\n<h2><strong>Step 2: Download Zoom binary file<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>The next step is to download the Zoom\u2019s RPM binary file from the Official site. Using the <strong>wget <\/strong>command, grab the Zoom\u2019s binary file for 64-bit architecture as follows.<\/p>\n<pre><strong>$ wget https:\/\/zoom.us\/client\/latest\/zoom_x86_64.rpm<\/strong><\/pre>\n<p><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"816\" height=\"448\" class=\"wp-image-8648\" src=\"http:\/\/linuxways.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/word-image-640.png\" srcset=\"https:\/\/linuxways.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/word-image-640.png 816w, https:\/\/linuxways.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/word-image-640-300x165.png 300w, https:\/\/linuxways.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/word-image-640-768x422.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 816px) 100vw, 816px\" \/><\/strong><\/p>\n<h2><strong>Step 3: Install Zoom on Rocky Linux 8<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>With the binary package in place, execute the command below to install the Zoom client.<\/p>\n<pre><strong>$ sudo dnf localinstall zoom_x86_64.rpm<\/strong><\/pre>\n<p><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"814\" height=\"470\" class=\"wp-image-8649\" src=\"http:\/\/linuxways.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/word-image-641.png\" srcset=\"https:\/\/linuxways.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/word-image-641.png 814w, https:\/\/linuxways.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/word-image-641-300x173.png 300w, https:\/\/linuxways.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/word-image-641-768x443.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 814px) 100vw, 814px\" \/><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>When Zoom\u2019s installation is complete, you can confirm the version installed alongside other details such as architecture, build date and a brief description etc using the <strong>rpm <\/strong>command shown:<\/p>\n<pre><strong>$ rpm -qi zoom<\/strong><\/pre>\n<p><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"815\" height=\"504\" class=\"wp-image-8650\" src=\"http:\/\/linuxways.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/word-image-642.png\" srcset=\"https:\/\/linuxways.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/word-image-642.png 815w, https:\/\/linuxways.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/word-image-642-300x186.png 300w, https:\/\/linuxways.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/word-image-642-768x475.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 815px) 100vw, 815px\" \/><\/strong><\/p>\n<h2><strong>Step 4: Launch Zoom<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>To start using the Zoom client, search using the Application manager.
